02 Jan Do we think about usability in our IT projects?
Usability has become an immanent part of our reality to a greater extent than ever, and subsequent generations will increasingly be dependent to it. Today, one of the most important factors in the adoption of technology, products or services is their simplicity, elegance and value in use. These values are a source of measurable benefits, pleasure, goodness and satisfaction for the client. Disqualification of an offer that does not meet these criteria occurs almost spontaneously, without our awareness. The need to put more effort into learning how to use product, read the instruction or simply the need to spend more time for adapting to new product is a source of discouragement and resignation.
Usability still requires promotion and further exploration. On one hand, we are delighted with the simplicity and elegance of works by Jony Ive, the designer of the most famous Apple products, which raised the design on a pedestal and contributed to the permanent anchoring of applied art in mainstream, on the other we are coming back to the reality at the stage of submitting a 500+ application. The intention here is not to criticize the level of public administration solutions in Poland. First of all, I tried to submit my application (unsuccessfully) via the bank’s website, which is considered one of the best electronized in Poland.
In the article, we have traced the genesis and problems regarding usability in IT projects, potential fields for popularizing this approach, and pointed practical mechanisms for providing usability.
