Brocken spectre

Yesterday while descending from Mount Babia our Vice President saw Brocken spectre. Amazing experience!!!

Among mountaineers there is a superstition that a man who saw a Brocken spectre will die in the mountains. Iza said that by no means it will not stop her from hiking. Fortunately, you can undo the charm – one who sees spectre 3 times is safe in mountains forever.

The Brocken Spectre is a rare optical phenomenon found in the mountains, it appears when a low sun is behind a climber who is looking downwards into mist from a ridge or peak. It happens that the shadow of the observer is surrounded by a rainbow halo called Gloria. The Brocken spectre was observed and described by Johann Silberschlag in 1780. The name of the phenomenon draws its name from the peak of the Brocken in the Harz Mountains in Germany.

There are numerous references to the Brocken Spectre in the literature. It is mentioned among others by Stanislaw Lem, Lewis Carroll and Charles Dickens.
